The second quarter of 2026 has been a demonstration of a proposition central to this Review: that elections are political events, but they are conducted entirely within legal form. As Zambia approaches the August poll under an amended Constitution and a rebuilt National Assembly formula, the legal machinery is already in motion. The Constitutional Court has disposed of two eligibility challenges to presidential candidacies on expedited full-bench timetables. The Electoral Commission has gazetted fourteen validly nominated presidential candidates. And the constitutional provisions governing any petition against a declared result — seven days to file, fourteen days for the Court to determine — have moved from the pages of the Constitution to the front of every election lawyer's mind.

Issue 2 maps the legal architecture of the vote to come, and the quarter's parallel currents. Across sixteen articles spanning Energy, Resources & Infrastructure; Corporate Advisory; Banking & Finance; Dispute Resolution & Public Policy; Superior Court Highlights; and The Legal Profession, the Review addresses the questions the season poses for boards, general counsel, transaction teams, dispute practitioners and fellow lawyers — from open-access wheeling and utility-scale solar bankability, to beneficial-ownership enforcement, election-season MAC drafting, the Pre-Election MPC, the anatomy of a presidential petition, and the profession's own conduct in a contested season.

The RBG Law Review is published quarterly by Reagan Blankfein Gates Legal Practitioners. Readers are invited to engage with the analysis and to write to the editorial team with comment, correction, or proposals to contribute to Issue 3.
