RBGLP Client-centric. Results-oriented

At RBGLP, we are committed to promoting the Rule of Law and ensuring access to justice across Zambia, the sub-region, and Africa at large. These principles underpin the development of peaceful, equitable, and prosperous societies, which are critical for sustainable economic growth and international trade in our region.

The Issue

The Rule of Law ensures that “no-one is above the law.” Its effectiveness depends on:

  • Equality under the law.
  • Transparency of legislation and regulations.
  • An independent judiciary.
  • Access to legal remedies.

In Africa, upholding the Rule of Law is vital for fostering business confidence, institutional integrity, and economic prosperity. However, in jurisdictions where the Rule of Law is weak, the resulting legal risks deter investment, increase capital costs, and heighten exposure to bribery, corruption, and institutional inefficiency.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions, emphasising the importance of the Rule of Law. This principle is also closely linked to other goals, including:

  • SDG 1: Poverty Reduction.
  • SDG 5: Gender Equality.
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequality.

What We Do

RBGLP provides expert legal advice and practical solutions to strengthen the Rule of Law and improve access to justice. Our work spans:

Government and Legislative Reform

  • Assisting governments across Africa, including Zambia, in drafting and implementing effective legislation to address systemic weaknesses in the Rule of Law.
  • Advising on judicial reforms to reduce delays in the enforcement of contracts, streamline court processes, and improve case management.

Judicial Training and Capacity Building

  • Training judges and magistrates on international and regional legal frameworks to ensure fair and non-discriminatory rulings.
  • Providing education on anti-corruption measures and the importance of judicial independence.

Corporate Support in Challenging Jurisdictions

  • Identifying weaknesses in the Rule of Law where our clients operate and designing strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Setting up grievance mechanisms to enable foreign investors and local stakeholders to resolve disputes collaboratively and transparently.

Pro Bono Advocacy

We take pride in a robust pro bono practice that focuses on advancing:

  • Financial independence.
  • Equality and inclusion.
  • Legal transparency.
  • Access to justice.

Our initiatives align with the UN SDGs, maximising impact through collaboration with clients, host governments, and community organisations to strengthen the Rule of Law in jurisdictions where it is most fragile.
